Spooked by my own stories

"Be careful what you write about as it might come true." ~ Anonymous poster  by Lynn WL  Hi everyone, this is Sharleen (a.k.a. Lynn). As most of you know I'm the author of most of the stories on this blog, but this is like the first time I'm addressing my readers, and that's because I have something interesting to share other than just stories. I love ghost stories 👻 but I have to admit I'm also a bit of a scaredy cat. When I was a kid my parents didn't like me reading spooky stories because I got scared so easily, and they said I had an overactive imagination. But the whole point of reading ghost stories is to get scared, isn't it? I mean it's kinda fun to get scared. Well, this is only true as long as you realize the stories are fictional and you believe nothing similar can happen in real life. In other words, once you stop reading you stop being scared.  However, as you probably know, this is not always the case especially if the stories are ba...

The Woman in the Next Bed

Image
by Lynn WL If you've read some of my stories you probably know how much I've disliked hospitals ever since I was a kid growing up in Asia where most of the hospitals were old and creepy looking. Moving to the US where most of the hospitals are modern and bright didn't really change things much. In fact, "dislike" is an understatement. I actually fear hospitals or have an intense aversion for them. First of all it's because I associate them with pain and suffering, and death. Then there's the paranormal aspect. I believe in ghost and I know that most, if not all, hospitals are haunted. Yes, even the modern ones. Unfortunately, hospitals are part of our lives, and it's unavoidable that we have to visit them or even stay in them during our lifetime. I had that unfortunate occurrence like a couple of months ago when I had to have surgery. Without going into details, it was actually quite a simple surgery. Yet, it wasn't an outpatient surgery. I had to ...

The Fourth Floor

Image
St. Mercy’s Regional was been built in 1911, back when hospitals were places people went to die quietly. Over the years it expanded, modernized, added glass wings and cheerful murals. But the original building remained at its core - brick, narrow windows, and hallways that smelled faintly of antiseptic and something older, like damp paper and rust. Everyone knew about the fourth floor. Officially, it was closed after a fire in the 1980s. Electrical failure, they said. Unofficially, nurses said all the patients weren't evacuated in time. Records vanished. Names were missing. Death certificates were… incomplete. The elevators skipped the fourth floor entirely. But there were rumors that sometimes, at night, they stopped there anyway. Mara started working nights because she needed the money and because she liked quiet. She had heard about strange happenings at St. Mercy’s Regional, but she told herself she didn’t believe in ghosts.  If anything, hospitals were emotional places - grief...

The patient

Image
by Lynn WL A group of kids were bored on a Sunday afternoon, so they decided to go to the local hospital to play doctor with a real patient. Little did they know it would lead to an evening of horror. ***** The following took place a number of years ago when I was 8 years old. It was in early or mid October, and it was a 3 day weekend, so my family decided to go visit our relatives who lived in a small town. We (my parents, my 12 year old brother Dave, my 10 year old sister Tania, and myself) left home Friday afternoon and drove a few hours through the countryside to get to our destination. It was a nice drive. The weather was cool and the leaves already started to turn colors. It was starting to get dark when we got to the town where they lived. It was a small town, and there weren't very many people out and about. There was only one hospital in the town. My uncle is a doctor and he worked at the hospital, and his house was just a couple of blocks away. So when the weather was nic...

The woman by the lake near Houston

Image
My girlfriend and I camped out by a lake north of Houston. We were still having lots of fun in the wee hours when we heard a woman sobbing. We went to check it out, and I really wish we hadn't. by Lynn WL Shelley and I had been best friends since elementary school. We had many things in common, and loved each other's company. In middle school I came to realize that I was bi, and I was physically attracted to my best friend, but I kept it to myself for obvious reasons. In the last year of high school she shocked everyone (especially the boys who had a crush on her and were greatly disappointed) by coming out as a lesbian. I then opened up to her and told her I had always been attracted to her. To my pleasant surprise, she told me the feeling was mutual. But we didn't get into a romantic relationship immediately since I had a boyfriend at the time. Shelley and I went to the same college the first year, during which I broke up with my boyfriend and subsequently starte...

Mom told us about the faceless ghost

Image
It was Friday, Halloween night. Mom wanted to give us a special treat, so she told us the story of the faceless ghost. Family friendly. by Lynn WL The following happened when I was 9 years old. I was sharing a room with my big sister at the time, but on weekends during the warmer months I would camp out in the backyard with my 8 year old little brother Kevin. It was a lot of fun, and we both always looked forward to it. Faceless ghost That year Halloween fell on Friday which was an extra treat for us since we could stay up later. We had a blast trick-or-treating. I dressed as a witch, and Kevin a pirate. I loved going barefoot so I was a barefoot witch, but Kevin wore shoes. We got a boat load of candy, and when we got home we immediately went into the tent. My feet were quite dirty but I didn't bother to wash them since we were going to sleep outside the house. As we were sorting out the candy mom suddenly appeared in front of the tent. We were both startled as we weren...

The night I went trick-or-treating

Image
A not-so-scary (just a little) yet fun and heart-warming Halloween story about a free-spirited 12 year old girl, who was a bit rebellious but also kind of a scaredy cat, who decided to go trick-or-treating sans shoes. Family friendly. by Lynn WL It was 7 pm Halloween evening, and I just finished my light dinner. A number of little kids had come to our door, and I enjoyed handing out candies to them while admiring their fancy costumes. Now I was ready to go out trick-or-treating myself. I was supposed to meet my best friend Amanda at her house, which was just 2 blocks away, and then go out together with a couple of other friends. My mom wanted to walk with me there, but I was 12 years old and I thought I was old enough to walk 2 blocks by myself. Besides, we lived in a very safe neighborhood, so I wasn't scared or anything. Or so I thought. So I lied and told my mom that Amanda had gone out with her mom to the store to get some stuff, and they would stop by and pick me up on the...

The Storyteller

I met a wonderful storyteller at a mountain resort. She offered to tell me ghost stories in a private session. It was an experience I would never forget. by Lynn WL My parents used to bring me on vacation as part of my birthday present which I really cherished. For my 10th birthday they took me to Disney World, and I had the time of my life (see the link to this fun story at the bottom).* The following summer I went with them to the Smoky Mountains for my 11th birthday, and it was a time I would never forget. We were staying in the same resort my parents did on their honeymoon. “It’s very beautiful there. You’re gonna love it, Lynn,” my dad told me as he knew I loved nature. We arrived there early evening on Sunday, and I was indeed thrilled to be there. The beauty of the mountains was unparalleled. Our resort was surrounded by forest, and we stayed in a rustic cabin overlooking the mountains. As mom and dad were unpacking, I stood in the veranda admiring the magnificent surr...

The Baby Swing

Image
It was a chilly night, the air was still, and there was a full moon. I decided to take out the trash, and saw something strange by the dumpster - a black baby swing, and it was swinging!. by Lynn WL I once read comments on Reddit’s Nosleep sub saying that most creepy supernatural things happen in the woods or other sparsely populated places. Cities, on the other hand, with the large population, activities, etc. somehow create a buffer that kind of protects you from supernatural entities. They say it has something to do with energy. Well, a city might offer you some protection, but you’re not totally immune. I’m a college student living in a major city in the US. I recently moved out of my parents’ house into a 1 bedroom apartment. One Friday night I was having a little get-together in my apartment with some of my close friends. The little party lasted well into the night. My best friend Jen decided to stay with me overnight. She said it was kind of too late to go home as she ...

Grandpa and Grandma

A creepy ghost story about a little girl who wandered off and got lost in the woods. Family friendly. by Lynn WL I'm a free spirit. Always have been. When I was a kid I often got in trouble for wandering away from whoever was looking after me, and taking my shoes off at every chance I got and running around barefoot. One day when I was in 4th grade we went on a field trip to a botanical garden located in a beautiful area just outside the forest. It was about 5 pm when we left to go back to town. A few minutes after we started, our bus had engine trouble. We were still in a tourist area, so the driver pulled over to a parking lot where many tourist buses were parked and called for a replacement bus. It was going to take a while for the replacement bus to arrive, so the teachers let the kids off the bus to play outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery, but they told us not to go too far from the bus, and to stay with the group. One of them even told me specifical...
