Spooked by my own stories
by Lynn WL
Hi everyone, this is Sharleen (a.k.a. Lynn). First of all happy Halloween eve (this was posted on October 30th). As most of you know I'm the author of most of the stories on this blog, but this is like the first time I address my readers, and that's because I have something interesting to share other than just stories.
I love ghost stories 👻 but I have to admit I'm also a bit of a scaredy cat. When I was a kid my parents didn't like me reading spooky stories because I got scared so easily, and they said I had an overactive imagination. But the whole point of reading ghost stories is to get scared, isn't it? I mean that's the fun part, lol.
I remember reading somewhere online (probably Reddit) that you should be careful about what stories you write as they might actually come true. As you can see I've written quite a few ghost stories of my own on here, and a couple of them kinda give me the heebie-jeebies even till today.
The first one is titled "the baby swing." The number one reason this scares me is because it took place in my own apartment complex. So yeah, it's based on a real experience. I actually did see a baby swing right next to the dumpster when I took out the garbage one night. And it was swinging a little bit! But I think it was because there was a pretty strong wind blowing that night. However, I didn't hear a baby cry, and nor did I see a dark hooded figure standing under the stairs.
Even today I often get a little nervous when I have to take the trash out at night. What if what happened in that story came true? I try to heed the words of my neighbor (in the story) about taking out the trash when it's still light out. However, I get off work when it's already dark, and by the time I finish eating dinner it's quite late. I could always wait to take out the garbage the following morning, but sometimes my kitchen would stink (depending on what I have in the trash bin), and that would invite cockroaches and ants. So I usually tell myself not to be silly and just take it out at night. Well, so far nothing has happened, but this one story always stays in the back of my mind.
There's another story that occasionally spooks me a little although not as intensely as the first one. This one is titled "The little girl in a cold October night."
I very seldom take the bus, and when I do, it's usually during the day, so I'm not worried about meeting any ghost at the bus stop or on the bus. But like I said earlier, I get off work when it's already dark, and I usually walk home because my work place is just like 10 minutes away from my apartment on foot. Usually it's a nice and relaxing walk as everything is quiet and I love hearing the crickets chirp. I also live in a very safe neighborhood, and I know karate, so I feel quite safe 😊 but karate can't protect me against otherworldly beings.
It gets creepy when on occasion the night is foggy, and that's usually when my imagination runs wild. Sometimes I would see like shadows moving in the corner of my eye. My mind would often wander to this particular story of mine. What if I should meet Jenny, the little girl in the story somewhere along the way? Or what if she would be waiting for me in front of my door? I usually get more nervous around Halloween because in the story she came to my house and asked for candy on Halloween night.
Oh, and don't even get me started on hospitals. Those horrid places! My stomach turns whenever I walk into one. Luckily I don't have to go to a hospital very often. You can read a few haunted hospital stories on this blog.
Yeah, sometimes I feel like I've created my own monsters. So should I give up reading and writing ghost stories? Nah, I don't think I'm ready to pay that price. Actually, I think my low level fear is like a thrill that makes life more exciting.
Ok guys, that's all I wanted to share with you. Until next time... enjoy life and stay spooky! 👻
